Hmm, its general problem. Follow following thing may be it can help
1 - Divide ur answeer in parts, suggested sequence is name, college, academic, awards and special features, what are you looking for.
2 - Prepare eachg part well, be prepared for the possible questions too on specific parts.
3 - Share it with your family member/friends. Ask them what you are missing. Specilly about your characterstics.
4 - In spite of 'prepareing' it should not sound like a speech, mind the ups and downs and forces in your statement. It matters...

I would suggest you take maybe some basic (100 level) communications and/or writing courses that your college offers. That might be a good way to start or check out what services your school offers on improving your communications skills.
