You are penalized a fraction of a point for a wrong answer. Therefore, random guessing will not help you. You are more likely to choose a wrong answer (4/5) than a correct answer (1/5) and that will bring your score down.
However, if you feel confident that you can eliminate some answers that are clearly wrong, you are in a good position to guess. Some people advise you to guess even if you can eliminate one answer; other say if you eliminate 2 or more it's better to guess between the remaining answers than to leave it blank. You can take some practice tests to see which strategy works best for you. In general however most people do answer too many questions. If you are scoring in the 50th percentile, it's likely you can get a boost in your score just by answering a few less questions on each section.
Bottom line, read every question and try to make sense of what they are asking you to do. If you are clueless, leave it blank. If you aren't sure but know that a couple answers are totally wrong, guess. HTH!

If you can eliminate enough answers until there are only 2 - 3 left, go ahead and take the chance. If you have no clue or can only eliminate 1 answer, leave the question blank.
On the SATs, you get one point for answering correctly, no points for not answering, and -1/4 points for answering wrong. This system was actually put in to prevent people from randomly guessing and getting the right answer because there is too big of a risk.

From what I remember It was always better to "guess" (by process of elimination) than leave something blank because they don't count wrong answers against you. Granted this was for the old SAT, the new one could be different.

They say its better to leave it blank, but the way i see it, the more u guess, the more chance u have of getting at least some of them right.

I think that you should answer it because you might have a chance of getting it correct.
