Does your city have a law school? If it does give them a call and see if they have a clinic that can help you. A clinic is a pro bono (free) service where law students under the supervision of a practicing attorney and/or professor will help you with your legal problems. Don’t dismiss it out of hand because they're students, these students tend to be the brightest in the school, are highly motivated and desperate not to fail (you or the class) so you know they will work their butts off for you.

Good luck! I wouldn't trust my life to a "public pretender"! They have way too many caseloads and not enough time to devote the amount of attention needed for each particular case.I am currently in a similar situation ,and for the guy who said "work",why don't you waste your time somewhere else? What are you bored or something?
I wish I could help you out, short of getting a second mortgage on a house or property or finding a good friend with good credit to get a loan in their name,I don't know.
Yes,a yard sale is a good idea, however if you don't have any large collections or antiques then your not gonna make too much at a yard sale.Pawn shops are a joke, they should be illegal, for the amount they want to pay for gold and other items.I am selling stuff on ebay, but thats very time consuming and my figure is a large one and I need the money within a couple of weeks. So although it will help with the down payment, realistically it's not going to be an obtainable goal.
I have worked every day of my life since I was 14 years old.I come from a semi-poor background and my family, although they "own" houses, they have no equity in them because they already have second mortgages.Me,i've never been able to even afford the down payment for a house. Now,if I was a minority or an illegal alien,i'm sure I would be driving an Escalade by now,but alas,i'm just a poor ,blue collar, white boy who's roots in this country go back before the Revolutionary War,and am related to one of the first presidents of this country no less.Welcome to the "New" America, where the Anglo is put last and fast becoming the new "minority".Delete this if you will, but remember this is still America!!!!! Remember,Freedom of Speech!!!!!!!!
I'll see you in 20 years! All because i'm not rich!!!!

It makes a difference why you need a lawyer. If you are being charged with a crime for which there is a possible prison or jail sentence, you are entitled to a lwyer paid by the state.

The law may also provide state-paid counsel for certain civil cases.

Some kinds of cases may be of interest to the Civil Liberties Union, who will provide free counsel.

Free legal services for certain classes of cases are available, although there may be waiting lists.

Otherwise, pawn shops and yard sales are the quickest ways to raise money.

If you were arrested and don't have the money to pay for one, you will receive a court appointed lawyer. If you need a lawyer for other reasons you can apply or file for lawyer who handles indigent cases.

You can also call your city or county bar association for an attorney that is taking pro bono work, OR an organization like Legal Aide or the like that has a staff of attorneys/paralegals that will take on the case for free.

Look for a pro bono lawyer. Talk to your county or local bar association. Lawyers do not come cheap.
