Canada is a long way off. Mostly I think the winters are very cold indeed. Where I live in London England, we can expect the average mean temperature in winter months to be well above freezing, sometimes as high as 45 to 50 Fahrenheit - not sure what that is in Celsius. Also, Canada has more trees than we do, although we do have plenty for a small island. Another annoying thing from America is seeing a sign in the rear of someone's car which reads, BABY ON BOARD. This is not English. A baby what? You mean you got a baby pig in your car, right? The notice in English should read CHILD ON BOARD. Baby does not scare anyone. Child does, it means a small person who is often rude and can throw things.

Canada has a parliament, a House of Commons - not sure where that is exactly, so in some ways, Canada is British, in spite of having an overbearing and bossy neighbour, the US of A.

Canada has famous Indian Nations. Canada has the Calgary Stampede, the biggest Western event anywhere. Canada has the world's most fabulous railway - Canadian Pacific (see it on line and marvel). Canada has two oceans, the Atlantic and the Pacific - we don't have even one ocean here in England - well, a bit of the Atlantic anyway.

Canada is rich. Canada has got Cunard - you can visit their office just off Trafalgar Square here in London, behind the most beautiful house in London, Canada House, which faces the square with the world famous Canadian flag, the Red Maple Leaf.

Canada has got the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Canada has got a lot more besides but that's about it for now.

The USA is a completely different story - it's not British, not since c1776 and all that followed. The way of life of the people is not at all like ours here in UK. The ordinary American, while being generally a nice person, seems to know little about the world beyond Dorethy and Kansas. The American leadership often seem full of nonsence and do not have a very good quality or understanding of the English language. What does the Rumsfeldian phrase "things happen" mean exactly? Things, in case you did'nt know, Rummsey baby, are objects. A broom is a thing - so it happens, okay!

americans lack the freedom we have in europe; i've met some good americans but a lot tend to be insincere. you have two opposites, canada and the US, and i don't think either want to be like each other. there's a general attitude on both sides of not wanting to be like the other, america is an overly conservative society (the democrats are conservative by world standards) and canada is more liberal. america seems quite divided, all the states have their own way of doing things, they have a large christian demographic and with it being such a large country there are so many different groups of people, all with different ideas about what america should be. i'd say the only clear division you have in canada is with quebec

i'd much prefer to live in canada because i'm not fond of sun (it burns) and i have relatives there

At first you think "this is brilliant", everyone who serves you in shops etc sems so friendly. Then you notice they are terrified of losing their job, and need your tips to make a decent wage. Shortly after THAT, you start to notice the poor people everywhere. And the other thing I notice is that americans are terrified - absolutely physically terrified - of their boss. They don;t seem to feel secure in their jobs.

On the plus side, I'd say that some of the nicest people I have ever met have been American. It's a huge country and we shouldn't generalise. I think it's fair to say though, that the whole world breathed a sigh of relief when we realised that bush, rumsfeld and all those other religious crackpots were finally losing their grip on power. America is our ally, and has been for some time. Hey isn't Canada in North America? - the continent I mean?

I think this is maybe a trick question to test our knowledge of geography!!

If I say something bad i'll probably get shot. Lovely! Just kidding, i'm scared of North America because of the spiders. My mother lives in west virginia and my sister lives in north carolina so i've met some wonderful people from those parts. HUGE portions of food in comparison to over here lol

I must confess to not knowing much about Canada and Canadians but I hate America because of exactly the kind of people on this board who have answered this question. Why are they talking about sending children to war? I'm from U.K. We don't do that. Nor does any of Europe. As for the greatest democracy on Earth? Don't make me laugh. Your half-wit president stole his first election victory. Of course, this criticism will just be construed as jealousy. Whatever.

Having been to the USA quite a few times I think it probably is a good country if you are white. The way the native Americans, blacks, Hispanics and any other non white races are treated is appalling and embarrassing. Of course, the other embarrassing factor is George bush. It is a huge country with plenty of potential but has a lot of work to do.

Its a money led society with 33 million people in poverty and the rest doing very well. i personally don't like the country but recognizes most of the best things in the world come from North america as well.

not a lot just that they are selfish and dominant and want to rule the world, selfish to use fosil fuel to such an extent that everything in the world is suffering, doing nuclear test where the native indians live to rot them out, to play war games all over the world and then go and start somewhere else, this is my opinion about the big bully USA

despite some of the problems in that region, i still think it is a great place to be. yes it gets a lot of flak, particuarly when it comes to america's george bush and seal culling in canada, which is horrific and appalling and it should be banned. but otherwise, like any country or should that be continent in the world, you meet and get to know some great, polite and interesting people

North America can have its problems, and overall it is very diverse. Lots of beauty and lots of buisness. It depends on the area you're in.
