hmmm... your question is a little confusing. If you mean, "what should I do to avoid being the what should I do retard..." then it all depends on you. Try thinging things through carefully... it's fine to ask questions and seek guidance, I do it all the time! Some people are just more independent than others, which seems unfair but you just have to learn to live with it. Don't ask questions all the time... if you don't decide for yourself you'll never learn what works best and then you will keep asking over and over again.
