John Lennon of The Beatles was shot and killed Dec. 8, 1980 outside his NYC apartment building. Mark David Chapman, an obsessed fan had earlier in the day approached John for an autograph and then around 10:00 pm, shot and killed him. The spot where Lennon died is a popular tourist spot in NYC and fans gather there every year on the anniversary of his death.
