This illustrates the fact that addition is commutative; that is, for any numbers a and b, a + b = b + a.

In going from 7 + (6 + 8), we just have to switch 6 and 8 to get 7 + (8 + 6), so this is the appropriate property.

Answer: Commutativity.

The property of commutativity--a + b = b + a. The only thing changing from the left side of the equation to the right is what is in the parentheses, so the fact that they're equal implies that (6 + 8) = (8 + 6). This is the commutative property--it doesn't matter which order you write them in, the sum is the same. (Contrast this with subtraction--is (6 - 8) the same as (8 - 6)?)

It is the associative property. When adding a series of numbers (more than two), it does not matter how you group them when adding- you still get the same answer.

In simpler terms, it doesn't matter which numbers I add together first, I'll end up with the same answer.

(Many people mentioned the commutative property- that's when you change the order of the numbers, not the grouping of the numbers.)

It's the Associative property od Addition, I think. I just learned in school. That's where you can put the numbers in parenthesis.

commutative. it means that it is still mathmatically equal when the figuers are switched but there are some limits such as addition and multiplication

Communative: because only the things in the brackets have changed order.
