Bobby Kennedy. He was a beacon of hope for ending the war and helping those who were less fortunate during the late 1960's. It was during that period I first became truly politically awakened and began to get active in politics beyond marching in anti-war protest marches. RFK gave voice to what so many of us who were in college at that time wanted to say. With his assassination, much of the idealism that had taken root turned to cynicism and a general distrust of all things and people involved in the political process. And, many of us are still quite cynical about what takes place in the political arena today - the best qualified candidate loses because of political dirty tricks (taught so well by Richard Nixon's henchmen) or by mud-slinging which helps sway the minds of the uninformed. Sadly, RFK was the end of an era and we will never see anyone like him again who will energize the young people and make them think. That's sad.

Machiavelli. He was totally correct in his assessment of human nature.
Karl Marx. Mainly because his beliefs are so disjointed that it takes a total ignoramus to believe them. After reading the "Communist Manifesto", "1984", and "Animal Farm" it was very easy to accept what the Founders espoused in the Constitution and the Federalist Papers.

I first realised the importance of it when I was very young....maybe 9 and I can still remember my mother (God rest her) jumping for joy when she got the right to vote. As small as I was at that moment I wondered why she coudn't vote before. She had always accompanied my father to go vote and I just assumed that they voted together. It opened my eyes to learn how women were viewed at that time.
edit: so I have to say my mother was my influence when she smiled and looked at me she said now all 4 of my daughters can vote

Ben Franklin embodies everything American. Rags to Riches - entrepreneurial - a ladies man - risk taker - and was an integral part of creating this country, in fact without his help to bring in the French, this country would still be answering to English royalty.

for me its not who...its what...Its my Country, and I know when things are wrong and who is to blame...and that largely falls on the Republican agenda.
Its seeks to undermine the existing environmental laws.
its seeks unfair trade practices that hurt both domestic and foreign workers, and in-fact encourages illegal immigration.
Its seeks to keep us all in a constant class warfare, thereby talking our attention away from whats truly wrong with this country.

Hard question.
I would have to say it would have to be in this order:
Washington... pushed our great nation into independence.
Lincoln... Won the civil war and freed the slaves.
FDR.... Pulled us to win WW2.
JFK..... True American who loved this land and wanted to see it prosper. " Ask not what America can do for you... Ask what you can do for America!". Too bad Teddy can't remember his brothers goals and stop being a drunken crack pot.
Reagan... Ended the cold war, brought down the Berlin wall and lead our economy out of the Carter Quarter years.
Those are my picks for the people who I would most like to have lunch with and to be proud to be seen with.
