Unless the moon was influenced by an external force in a rather dramatic way, it would not hit the Earth. The density of the moon is such that it would be torn apart by the gravitational forces of Earth as it moved gradually closer. This used to be called the Roche Limit I believe. Furthermore, the moon's distance is slowly increasing, away from the earth, based on measurements taken since the mid-1960s, so there is little to worry about from a collision perspective. There is more to worry about when the moon moves so far away that it's stabilizing effect on our orbital inclination can no longer keep the planet from "wobbling", with the potential ecological devastation that might cause.

relies upon. If an similar effect got here about to what's assumed to have created the Moon contained in the first position, the Earth would take up perchance 0.5 the present Moon and something else of the debris would variety a sparkling, smaller moon. The effect would kill each and every thing, evaporate each and every of the water, and melt the crust. The Earth would in all probability seem such as even as it became first forming, albeit truly better. no matter if life might want to initiate again, who's conscious of.

well first, the moon wont, the moon is moving away from us, at a rate of about 1.5 inches a year. second, if the moon somehow did have tomendous forces pushing it to earth, the moon would probably kill us all, if not raising a huge cloud of dust into the atmosphere and block off the sun's light and kill us all because our planet would one, get really cold (the solution to global warming, haha right.) and we would freeze, and second the plants could not grow because there is no light and there is no light to heat water to creat clouds and rain to give the plants water and the whole food chain would die out. it would also increase earths gravity. second if life somehow did survive somehow, they would die, earths axis could move up to 90 degrees and our ice caps could melt and the saharah could become a frosty snow tundra, so our oceans would flood, we would have severe temperature changes, and we would all die.
so there you have it, we would die.
so please, dont go wishing the moon crashed into earth

Use Newton's equations to find the velocity of the moon on contact. Use the velocity and the mass to calculate the kinetic energy of the collision. Nearly all this energy converts to heat pretty quick. Boiled ocean, melted crust, possible formation of two new planets or just a debris field. Roy is correct - solves a lot of problems.

If by some small chance, anyone survived the impact, it would push the planet out of orbit. Either everyone would burn up the closer we got to the sun or would freeze as Earth drifted away.
Not likely to happen though. Its been orbitting safely for 6000 years so there's not much chance it'll change now.

Well, it's nearly impossible for the moon to come hurtling back toward our planet since its orbit is taking it several centimeters further from us each year. However if it did occur it would resolve itself in about 20-30 minutes and very little including the oceans would be left, vaporized material would fly off and the crust would become molten again.

half or more of the idiots on earth would probably cease to exist.....thus creating more living space, then bam! another population explosion, then we'll all go happy go lucky and return to everyday life, reading about the "second big bang" every once in a while in the science textbooks ....assuming that in some sort of a miracle, that the resources would be retained
....and of course, only if some of us live and earth doesnt go splat completely
