In some women there is no definite sign of danger to the baby right away, over time if u continue to drink, you put the baby more and more in danger and also yourself. Not only would there be birth defects or the baby being dependent of the alcohol, but your body would cause itself to abort the fetus and cause heavy bleeding or miscarriage. You shouldn't drink nor smoke. I would hope that your baby is more important to you than a drink of alcohol. If you have a alcohol problem seek help. But the major problem with drinking while pregnant is the new law in affect that if the mother has either drank alcohol through her pregnancy and have caused the baby to be in danger before and after birth, you can be arrested and prosecuted and stripped of your parental rights and your baby placed in foster care or a ward of the state. And if you were to get things straight in your life and have other kids, the state could come in and take those kids from you as well because of your past. Its not worth it hun by no means necessay.

You mean like you just found out your pregnatn and a you got hammered a couple times before you knew?
Theres really no risk in that sort of situation. its continued drinking and drunkardness during pregnancy, especially the first 12 weeks, that causes birth defects.
Before you know you're pregnant the embryo isnt even sharing your blood supply. That doesnt happen until after the placenta is formed and the yoke is used up, generally about week 8-9. And generally by then you've known you're pregnant, or atleast very late.

Alot of women dont know they are pregnant the first few weeks and therefore alot of women do have a few drinks. I didnt find out i was pregnant with my now 3yr old until i was over a month pregnant. I was living with my sister at the time and partying quite abit, I got quite drunk without knowing when i was just a cpl weeks and then when i was about a month we went out and i couldnt drink, i got real sick. I told my doctor right away and she informed me that the chances of it doing anything are very rare and not to worry, she said most women do drink before knowing they are pregnant and babies are born fine. However if you continue drinking this would be extremely dangerous for your baby and as soon as you know or suspect you are pregnant to stop immediately.

An immediate side effect would be a hangover the next day. But if you're talking about the baby, little damage is done for the first month or two by having a drink or two . Past that, you're in deep ****

How early do you mean? I drank a half of a bottle of jack daniels when I was like 3 week pregnant. Then at 5 weeks tried to drink some and threw up everywhere! LOL My son was born healthy and happy. I did not drink at all once I found out I was pregnant, which was like 3 days after the trying to drink and throwing up incident. :)

If you have a drink or two before you know you are pregnant, you have nothing to worry about. Even while you are pregnant if you have a single drink every now and again you'll be fine. But do not drink regularly, binge drink, etc. I know firsthand someone who has and the child is now 4 yrs old and has serious learning disabilities, weight problems - looks emaciated, growth is abnormal. Not deformities, but he is not right. Don't do it. If you know someone who is doing it, talk to them.

No. My doctor told me pretty much anything that is done in the first month of pregnancy is inconsequential to the fetus well being. I asked the same thing because new years came around and I didnt knwo I was pregnant...I also had two glasses of wine before I foudn out and the doctor assured me it was okay. I had my baby she is perfectly healthy, reaching all her milestones early sometimes two months early and seems happy and well adjusted so far.

A lot of people do drink early in their pregnancies because they have no idea that they're pregnant. I would not be overly worried.

Nothing that you could tell right now, but the baby can be born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome which causes learning disabilities throughout the childs life. I wouldn't chance it. If you have just had a drink or two, I wouldn't worry.
