HEET is alcohol. Its purpose is to mix with any moisture in the fuel, and then keep the HEET and moisture suspended in the fuel rather than settling at the bottom of the tank and being drawn into the fuel line where it CAN freeze as well as cause performance problems. It is relatively easy to expel moisture in the engine a little at a time, but if you get a large mass all at once, it won't pass or burn, and cause a stall or at best a very rough running engine.

Good Luck and Merry Christmas

2/9/14 NW. IN. Got gas and drove a 2007 150 7 miles and it died at 60 mph and would not start. Walked to a buddy's house and he had a bottle and took me back. Put Heet in tank and it started sputtered at first and smoothed right out. IT WORKS. Carry a bottle in your ride in winter !

heet contains special additives and methanol. When heet is added to the gas tank, it sinks to the bottom and mixes with any water. Since both heet and water are heavier than gasoline, they go to the bottom of the gas tank. heet absorbs water and keeps it from freezing, and blocking the flow of gasoline through the gas line and fuel pump. When the vehicle is started, the additives, methanol, water, and gasoline are consumed during combustion inside the engine.
