sounds like your system could be over heating and auto shutting off to protect the components or a virus in the system.

to check for a virus disconnect the hard drives and leave only the CD/DVD drive connected. if the system boots to the system disk when you boot then you have a virus on your main hard drive and so you need to clean that before your system will work correctly.

if this is a heating problem then you need to take the system apart and replace the thermal grease between the processor and its heatsink remember to use plenty of grease a thickish covering is required on the new processors above 2.4Ghz as they run extremely hot.
the cmos/bios needs to be set so that the system fans are fully on at below 25C for best performance.
also double check that your bios has not been tampered with, make sure to set the virus protection on if it's off set the system

I had a simillar problem a while back. It turned out that I wasn't using a surge protected powerbar and the power supply got messed up. It was a dell and was under warranty so they sent someone the next day to fix it for free.

If you have a virese that all it does is shut down your computer on startup or so, start it in safe mode (by pressing the key F8 on startup untill the menu pops up) safe mode only opens the nessicary 8 or so files that needs to run your computer, find the program/virese and delete it.

first thing first... 1. do not lay it down on carpet (wont boot.) 2. open side case, and use fan blow at it. 3. get a new PSU.

oooo make when the mainboard and case the scews are in right. when the metal touch it will not boot and have problems also.
