Hiccups happen when you swallow too much air. She's probably swallowing alot of air while eating. The more she swallows the longer her hiccups will probably last. There's not much you can do to prevent them or stop them. Just make sure you're burping her well.

If she is in distress, talk to her doctor. Otherwise, it is normal for newborns to have the hiccups. My 2 1/2 year old still gets them on a regular basis. If you don't make a big deal out of them, neither will she.
Since you are worried, mention it at her next well visit.

Baby's Bliss Gripe Water was an instant cure for my twins' hiccups! The main ingredient in the gripe water that helps stop the hiccups is sodium bicarbonate. I usually only gave them 1/2 the recommended dose and only if they looked like they were uncomfortable w/ them or if the hiccups were causing spit-up.

The best way to get rid of hiccups is swallowing. If the baby gets the hiccups, have him/her nurse or bottle-feed immediately. Within a few minutes they will go away. Works like a charm.

Newborns get hiccups alot; my son had them when i was pregnant also. I know making sure they don't take in a lot of air bubbles if you bottle feed will help with it. Good luck

my baby had the same problem. for the last month of the pregnancy and until he was like two months old he got the hiccups everyday, sometimes several times a day. i thought it was so funny while he was in my belly. it didn't bother me after he was born either, but i thought that he probably didn't like it that much so i would nurse him and most of the time this would get rid of them. he is four and a half months now and he rarely gets them anymore. whatever you do don't give her sweets, they aren't good for little babies.
children are so wonderful!!!
hope this helps

I know exactly how you feel my son has been having hiccups since he was in my belly and especially when he was first born, he rarely has them now, he's 5 months.. But when he did have them I tried rocking him, patting his back even scaring him, but nothing works.. sorry... just hold her and let her know that they'll go away soon enough..

My son had them A LOT (and still gets them occasionally, he's 6 months). And there's nothing you can do about them. It really does bother you more than it does him. My Dr said it was completely normal and they do grow out of it!

All you can do is offer plain water and hope they go away. They happen all the time and nothing you can do to prevent them
