I didn't take my husbands last name when we got married. Now we are having a baby and I want it to have my last name and he wants it to be his, but I hate his last name!

For a boy the name will be Nevin (haven't decided on a middle name) and for a girl Onicca (haven't decided on a middle name for a girl either)

Just use the excuse "but my last name goes better with the other names we have picked out" :-)

it should have both of your names, you can hyphenate it, the best reason for this is when the child goes to school, it becomes confusing, my sister had a son whose last name was different, then she had to have it changed because it was such a hassle, you have both earned the right to have the child have your names, just because you don't like your husbands name doesn't make for a good reason for your child not be to able to have his name. Keep you husbands feelings in mind, think of whats best for the child, this is not just about you!
PS Brackett-Skye is a pretty cool name, dont see what the problem is here!

Here's what ya do. This is actually quite a common problem. You give the baby your last name as his/her middle name, and you husbands name as the last name. So it's:

Nevin Skye Brackett
or
Onicca Skye Brackett

That way it's optional.

I like your last name better also. Ask your husband about using his last name as the child's middle name.

Then I guess you'll have to unfortunately hyphenate your child's name. My suggestion is having the last names be in alphabetical order.

Ex: Smith + Barber= Barber-Smith
Blank + Whatever= Blank-Whatever
Mouse + Cat= Cat-Mouse

(I ran out of generic last names)

Well, depends on the name of the baby. I like his better. Yours usually goes w/ girl names when his goes both ways. I think you should stick w/ his if a boy and if a girl maybe stick w/ yours.

if you really love your husband why not give him the joy of having his child named after him? Was'nt it in you marriage vows to honour thy husband? and would'nt this be an honor to him, I mean it's the least you can do, since you did'nt take his name.

Not to be offensive but if you were to get divorced would'nt you want half of everything he owns? If you answered yes, that's sad cause you only want to receive and not give, cause the day you didnt take his name in marriage you didnt receive what he wanted to give you, the only thing that really identifies him, his family name.

Sweetie, to you it may mean just an awful last name, but to your husband it's his family and his families identification, so even when it may just name a last name to you, it may mean the world to your husband....

You must compromise. Not to do so would be an insult. Hyphenate if necessary or change all of your last names to something new. He probably was willing to compromise when you decided not to take his last name.

I am sympathetic. My maiden name was so much better. Bach - how can you give up Bach, but I did.

I would go with Skye.. don't hyphenate it.. it will sound funny.. but you do you you could take his name.. then their would be no problem with the name... Naa stick with your name... but if it is a boy i know he will for sure want it to have his last name.. so his family name will be carried on....

I do like your last name better, since you are married though I would think the baby should have the fathers last name. If you weren't married then I'd say whichever.

Well to be fair have both your last names in the name.Or if it is a girl:yours-boy:his.It is not bad if you have a girl cause when she grows up she can drop them both and take her husbands but if it is a boy he has it to carry all his life.
