Whitish, thick discharge; itching; might be some swelling, yeasty smell. If it's your first, see a doctor.

A thick white discharge will be noticeable, it will burn when you pee, it itches, if you're really sore and raw... some spots of blood may be present when wiping and it hurts like h*ll to use soap in that area.

You should still see your doctor though, as some other infections can present some of the same symptoms. I suddenly developed an allergy to bar soap ... and it presented the exact same symptoms.

Keep in mind, if you have a boyfriend/husband ... they will have to take an oral antibiotic as well, otherwise ... you'll just be passing the yeast infection back and forth. A woman has both "good and bad" vaginal bacteria. When the bad over-takes the good ... it results in a yeast infection. I was told by my OB/GYN to have at least one serving of yogurt a day ... it aids in staving off the "bad" bacteria. Another thing that can aid in preventing a recurrence is to wear cotton under-ware ... I know, not very sexy ... but the silk lining in other under-ware doesn't give the vaginal area enough air, in order to keep bacteria from forming.

BTW: Antibiotics can also cause a yeast infection. I hope this helps you ... I know how ya feel. *winces* :(

You know when you have a yeast infection when you are feeling pressure, bloating, itching, whitish discharge and odor. They discharge will be your first clue, then the major itch. Not to worry it's normal from hormonal changes and can be treated by over the counter yeast medication such as Monistat! Please check with your Dr. to make sure it isn't anything more serious though. Also if you take antibiotics..and who don't this time of year.. your more susceptible to a yeast infection. Remeber yeast infection are part of a womans life and nothing to be ashamed of. Hope this helped and good luck. Please check out this site www.webmd.com and search for yeast infection for more details.

You have a lot of thick or cottage cheese looking discharge and it itches like crazy and I mean crazy! Make an appointment with your gynecologist. In the mean time eat yogurt it will regulate the natural bacteria in your body to reduce the yeast population. If you get desperate go to the store and buy an over the counter yeast infection medication. Good luck!

You'll know! You'll be itchy, more red than usual, and you'll have a white, thickish discharge. Call your GYN and she can call you in a one-dose pill or anti-fungal cream to clear it up. You can buy some over-the-counter anti-itching cream to get relief in the meantime.
