sending in real men*

because the on-line game probably wouldn't allow you to cheat:

beat up, torture and kill your prisoners for information

use weapons that no one else has access to b/c you have made sure that other countries did not out-arm you in the race for domination

use psychological torture on the populous (i.e., blow up the schools, churches, and hospitals of the innocent).

Because the government would have to find and finance highly trained on-line fighters--they couldn't send out the disposable element anymore. (i.e., minorities and impoverished persons who join the military b/c there is no way out of their economic / physiological state of being) and pay them not even a fraction of what their lives are worth! (And take their benefits away, as time goes on and people forget ).

Because someone / some faction out there in the world will say, "the hell with waiting for the game to be done, let's just go blow the crap out of (whatever country)"

But, man, it would sure be better your way.

It is easy to command the men to fight, when your friends and family are not part of those men, isn't it? Must be nice to sit in an arm chair and follow your war a million miles away from the actual fighting, eh? mr. pres? mr. congressman/woman? mr./ ms. senator?

Grrrrrr.. you done got me started, dfpersonn!

While I can see merit to the idea I am going to play Devils Advocate...

For two countries to agree on playing an online game rather than waging traditional war many things would have to be agreed upon for instance..

Who is going to control the server the game is on so both sides feel they are not being cheated from the start?

The knee jerk reaction is The United Nations... but too many people/countries think the U.S. or another country has the U.N. in thier pocket.... The U.N. is not seen as the impartial body... Therefore the U.N. could not be charged with overseeing the servers sop both sides feel uncheated... A new body to oversee the servers who would complrise the body and could anyone be seen as completely impartial? I don't believe so..

Where would the server be housed? Which ever countried soil the server is on would be seen as having unfair access to it to change game factors in thier favor... Put the server in space?? What country payed the most to place the server there what country maintains the server who was the last country to have somene at the server who could have change programmin in thier favor?

If two countries were ever able to agree on a way to wage a "fair virtual war "( a game in which both sides agree to every aspect and agree to overseers and housing of the server for the game) there would be no need for the war... If the two countries can work out all the differences involved in actually having a virtual war they would work out the differences that made war necessary in the first place...

It would be nice if countries and people could settle all thier differences by arm wrestling, watermelon seed spitting, or virtual war... But it's just not so and I don't see it being so anytime in my lifetime.... Conventional war soldier against soldier goes back to the beginning of time...

Obviously, they haven't thought of it yet. Go suggest it to world leaders. If they do listen, I'll be joining the online armies then!
