Horizontal banding usually means that the ink nozzle was blocked. You need to run the cleaning process to clear out the ink nozzles. The setting is usually in your printer properties page. Run the cleaning process at least a few times to see if the banding is gone. If it does not you will probably need a new ink cartridge. The banding issue could be cause by:
1. you probably haven't using the printer for quite some time.
2. you may have using a refill ink cartridge that's not from the manufacturer.
If all those steps listed above does not help, maybe it's time for a new printer.

When you click on "print" and the print window comes up, look for the "preferences" button and click on it.
Select "quality" instead of "speed".

That should do it.
