There is no plant that will absorb that much water... what i wud do is to dig up the area 12 to 14 inches and back-fill with 1" pea gravel 4 to 6 inches deep, then put the dirt back over top that will help with drainage and move the mud puddle underground

1. Canna Lilies, Weeping Willow and Bog plants = good suggestions.

1a. Many gardeners will share their Canna Lilies w/you; Cannas spread rapidly, are easy to grow, very hardy.

1b. Check the Better Homes & Garden website [bhg.com] and do a search for Bog plants.

2. River Birch; great bark, fast-growing, drinks lots of water.

3. Turn the area into a Bog Garden.

Try canna lillies they love water. Also look into bog plants or marginal pond plants. There are some really nice ones including irises. Don't get the horse tail once you get it, it becomes a noxious weed and almost impossible to remove.

try horsetail.... my soil is heavy clay (almost mud-like) and i placed horsetail next to a fountain, which made the soil even wetter and the plant just spreads like crazy.
