Yes. Fish food containers almost always tell you to feed more than you should. I-2 pellets, once a day, should be plenty. Too much food can make the water dirty and the fish may get sick.

Here's a straight answer- YES you were over feeding him.

I personally think that, at 6 pellets a day, you are still over feeding him, unless he is a very active betta (meaning he has at least 5 gallons to patrol).

I think that if you stay at this level of feeding, in time you will run into trouble, probably in the form of Swim Bladder Disorder, which will have him either sinking or floating.

The main killer of fish is over feeding. It's pretty hard to UNDERfeed a fish. Less is better. Really it is.

My recommendation is 2-4 pellets a day with an occasional fasting day, how many feedings per day you do this in is up to you.

I havnt found on staight answer to this question yet. So i improvised, i started at one pellet, moved up to two, and now im at three, think i'll stop there. But i feed my betta 3 pellets but only twice a day, because of work schedules. But my betta is growing nicely and i havnt had a problem with him yet.

If your betta is still somewhat small i would do about 4 or 5 a day. i have a some older larger ones so they get about 6 a day. If you feed them more then about 10 they may die because the pellets expand in their stomach before they digest them.

DO NOT FEED THAT MUCH they only do that to keep the fish food companies in business you will have some many problems with your tank and fish , do everyother day one time a day a very very small amount , fish have small stomachs but even smaller brains , they will not starve they will act like you have never fed them before

That sounds reasonable to me... I just feed as many as my fish can eat in a minute or two, and that's usually 3-5 pellets (they spit them back up sometimes, so keep an eye on that).
