What *teen are you? Thirteen? . . .or Seventeen?

If you don't already have a checking account, now is the time to start one.

If you can't start a checking acct, then put the moolah into your savings. Remember, it will take about a week for the cheque to clear before you should draw against it.

A "teen" does not prohibit you from having an account. You need to open an account first. It is preferable that you approach a bank, where your parents/Friends have an account, so that introduction a necessity to open an account is completed without hassles. After opening the account deposit the cheque in the account. It will take time for realisation to receive money in the account, depends whether the cheque is drawn on a local bank or on a bank outside your place. Once your account is credited you can draw the amount by visiting the bank and using a withdrawal slip, in case you are not provided with cheque book at the time of opening the account.
