A psychologist has studied psychology. They can counsel and advise people. They often specialize in helping average people get through difficult emotional situations like divorces, the deaths or family members, etc.
A psychiatrist is a Medical Doctor who specializes in the medicine of the brain and mind. They also help people who have emotional problems, but usually more severe ones. They also deal with mental illnesses like schizophrenia,or severe depression, which require medications to control.
A psychiatrist can prescribe medications. A psychologist can only talk at you.

Psychiatrists have medical degrees and are allowed to prescribe drugs. Psychologists cannot prescribe and they take a more experiential approach to people's problems, more emotional where psychiatrists tend to do more thought-based treatments. Many psychiatrists these days have turned into pill pushers, in my opinion. They see people as having a medical problem while psychologists think they have an emotional problem.

A psychiatrist is somebody who works with the "mentally ill" and is able to prescribe drugs to optimistically remedy the subject concerns...including pills for melancholy. A psychologist facilitates them be taught what to do of their existence or what could be troubling them and returned what to do...psychiatrist earns extra funds than a psychologist, generally.

A psychologist is an individual who has (almost always) earned a Ph.D (doctor of philosophy) degree and specializes in the application of psychology. Hope this helps... :))

Psychologists treat conditions pertaining to a person's emotions.
A psychiatrist treats people with mental illness' pertaing to the mind. They treat mental diseases, such as that which a person has no control over. They treat the very ill and people with mental disorders.
A psychologist can treat people with things that upset them, for example. That means, they have a perfectly healthy brain but just need some help dealing with a problem emotionally. They're not truely sick and with proper counceling can deal with their problem easily.

A psychologist is like a counsellor, they talk to you and find out your problems, how to help you etc
A psychiatrist is like a doctor, they will look at reports about you and decide if you need medication. eg your psychologist might tell him you were depressed and then he would prescribe some anti-depressants for you.

a psychologist talks to you but is not licensed to give you medicines such as anti depressants. a psychiatrist prescribes medication to you based on your talk sessions with him/her. thats the major difference. a little difference is that psychiatrists get paid a tad more because they deal with medication and have to have knowledge of drugs like that and there affects on the brain, (because they work harder, they get paid for it)
