to me it seems that jazz, blues, and soul was all about love, hard times, and just the love of music......this rap stuff is all about these people wanting money.....money meant nothing to these great musicians.

original rap was good... but its certainly gotten worse.. and when I say "good" I dont mean I liked it.. I am hardly a rap fan.. but it was at least honest... rap was originated by poor people who genuinely loved music but couldnt afford intruments and really created something for themselves.. however now it is downgraded by turning it away from an art form and into an expression of violence and used for shock value and an excuse to use half naked women in a music video

Great question. Musically there is no comparison whatsoever. Most of the garbage out there has no musical talent at all behind it. These people are not musicians and do not play insturments. What alot of the new music does is literally to take music off old rock songs and add them into their stuff. That way they do not have to be creative at all. I heard a song with some poorly talented women in it singing and the music was lifted of of ELOs song Evil Woman. It was the string section and was repeated through out the song. Pure garbage. I have heard it done with David Bowie songs among others.

Jazz was the music of that time...rap is the music of our time.

Its just comparing time periods.

But I agree with you about the genres of music.

because rap is kinda of like the jazz/ blues genre of our day ... hip hop is suposed to be the struggle of the streets, you cant compare all the whole rap genre to the selected few songs they chose to play on the radio.

because people don't appreciate how music is an artform, not a way to cuss out your "homies" or the "popo." or, because most of the jazz, blues, and soul singers were colored, maybe the colored rappers of today think that rap is the updated form of their "people's" music... i guess
