How can I check my Internet speed?
Once you have connected to the Internet you can move your mouse over your connection in the task bar (bottom right of your desktop) and it will tell you what you connected at. Even though you have a fast connection the Internet may seem really really really s-l-o-w or really really fast.
Whether you are using a cable modem, an asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL), digital subscriber line (DSL), integrated services digital network (ISDN) connection, or just a plain old dial-up modem, an Internet Speed Test will give you the answer. To have your connection tested visit one of these sites at:
1) http://webservices.cnet.com/bandwidth/
2) http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest
3) http://home.austin.rr.com/bc/bandwidth.htm
There are many sites that will test your connection and the above 3 were just chosen at random.
You can also check the download speed by observing a download window that shows the speed. If you are using dial up, speed can be increased by removing all phones from the wall and cut off all other computer use of the Internet.

go onto google or yahoo and click internet speed check. Click on the result that says CNET and then click start test. It will in the background download some files to determine how long your connection took which determines the speed (dont worry you dont have to calculate this as the wizard does it 4 u)
