Those were hard times, but rewarding ones. Even little kids could feel useful. It gave you that warm an fuzzy feeling all over. At least until the black wreath appeared on the neighbor's door or that green sedan pulled up in front of yours.

Higher education is truly a wonderful thing, but unfortunately, higher education in the US now means people being educated beyond any ability to think clearly. Education means, I am worldly wise and have an, "oh so much better and more sophisticated understanding of world views than you the peons of America do" Though I say I am for rights and liberty for all, since I am so well educated, I know what is best for all the uneducated peons of America. And by the way, the European life and ideal is just so much more sophisticated than you, the peons of America could ever comprehend. And we must accept as legitimate all cultures, even if they blow up buildings, cut off people's heads if they disagree, and beat women who show up in public sans burka. After all, they are legitimate countries and who are we to tell them what to do?
It's best if we the highly educated liberals of America tell you, the lesser educated peons of America what to think and do.
So what's to envy re: WW II. I mean, if the liberals of America had been in charge we'd all be goose stepping and killing Jewish people left and right.

If you are the age to have parent that were teens in the 60s/70s ask them this question. Most likly they were using vets from Nam as scap goats.

they did have alot of homeland support and everyone was doing their part. but we didnt always know who the bad were... we thought the bad guys in europe was only the Nazi's but everyone u came up against would say they werent a Nazi. some of the people were children. and i do envy them on a certain level... their tactics werent my favorite. and the american tanks werent really that ideal for the battlefield aginst the german panzers. in ww2 they always have 1 person be point so when that person got shot they knew there was a sniper and they knew the location by where the bullethole was. i am always thankful for what those brave men and women did in the battlefield (i know there wasnt many women in the battlefield but i know there was some like the resistances and the russian military n so on)

There were around 62 million casualties (about 2.5% of world population) in WWII. The war in Iraq has around 660,000 so far, including around 2,900 US armed forces. I see what you're getting at, but it's just not right to compare the two. Guantanamo doesn't really compare to Auschwitz, does it? And despite the hunt for weapons of mass destruction, Japan's the only country
nuclear bombed in wartime.

I have no envy for WW II, but I envy the patriotism, sacrifice, and love of country Americans of that era displayed. We will eventually lose our freedom because we don't have the same spirit as those Americans.

WW2, yeah, the loss of millions of lives, the destruction of half of Europe, the displacement of millions of people, the horror of mutilation, the starvation, the poverty, and what do you miss, OH YES the songs and giving old cooking fat!
