They definitely need filtration.
However, what they need most right now is a larger tank. Despite being called "dwarf", these fish can still grow to 2.5-3" (mine, in a 90 gallon tank, have grown to a healthy 3"). They really need at least 6 gallons per dwarf gourami, and two should not be kept together in anything smaller than 30 gallons. Most dwarf gouramis commonly sold in petstores are males, and male dwarf gouramis are rather territorial. Without ample space, they will fight and terrorize each other.

And they definitely need filtration. A proper, hang off the back filter is required. So is a heater, and they are tropical fish needing temperatures of 78-80F.

Please consider investing in a larger tank. If you got a 20 gallon long tank, or a 30 gallon, you could have your two dwarf gouramis and some other fish, and your dwarf Gs will be happy and healthy.

I've included a few links to caresheets that will confirm what I've said :)

I know it's hard to get the right information, especially when you ask at a petstore. Petstores are just terrible with giving fish care advice. They are there to sell fish, they don't care if the fish live. I wouldn't trust a petstore with my crickets. The best piece of advice I can give you is to research anything you're going to buy from a petstore before you actually buy it.

In the aquarium they should not be subjected to fast flowing currents, and need areas with little water movement to build their bubble nests...so to answer your question YES they need filteration but i think its hard to filter a 1 gallon tank.

The only filter that i know of that will work is this one. I use it for my betta 2 gallon tank and its works great..It doesnt cause alot of water movement..

Also Dwarf Gouramis are peaceful fish that do well in most community aquaria. They REQUIRE a tank that is 40 litres (10 US gallons) or larger. You have them in a tiny 1 gallon tank...this is not enough as they will eventually grow! So please transfer them into an at least 10 gallon tank as! and the person before me is right about a HEATER gouramis are tropical fish.

I do hope all this isnt new for you because you should always do alot of research before buying any animal..Dont take ur fish for granted...search more around the web about Gouramis and make sure you follow those guidelines...and im going to say this again 1 gallon tank is NOT acceptable for 2 Gouramis!!!!!!!!

eeeeeeee.... they are in a 1 gallon?
try getting a bigger tank, but if you insist on keeping them in that tank you should get a sponge filter just go to a petstore and ask for a sponge filter. the bubbly thing you are talking about is the aeration and the sponge filter uses that to power it not a cord or batterie.
so get a small sponge filter it will also help feed your fish and or get a larger tank.
