Hi everyone! I am a middle school student currently in the eigth grade. Before I explain my question, let me just tell you a little about how my school works for enriched and honors type clases:
In sixth grade, your teachers evaluate how you preform. Depending on how you do, they will either put your in regular (easier) or enriched (more difficult) classes. After completing the class in 7th grade you will enter another enriched course for eigth grade. However, if you do excellent, you are able to enter a honors-level course and go ahead one grade (ninth grade). This course is still taught in the middle school, but by different teachers.
Okay, now here is where this relates to my question:
I have choosen to take only math and science honors courses, although I made it in to all of them. Do you think, when applying for college and such, this will affect me? A few students are taking all honors courses. I just thought it may be too much work. What is your opinion? Thank you very much!

Actually -- you have chosen correctly -- it is the Math and Sciences that need to be emphasized early in your schooling to be able to compete effectively and to meet the MINIMUM basic background requirements for ANY college degree.

I can say this -- if you do NOT have at least Differential Equations (or Pre-Calculus) by the time you graduate High School -- you WILL be left behind.

The Honors English ... If your talents lie in the Math/Science -- I wouldn't necessarily worry too much about that course -- because you need to EMPHASIZE the Technical Writing Aspects (and NOT the creative side of the courses). Technical Writing is MORE ACTIVE -- and terse -- which means that you say what you want to say with carefully chosen words and that is it.

The Honors Social Studies -- in College there are some required courses, but in High School if you go through your 1st year successfully and the grade is A or High B -- you usually will be able to select the AP World History -- which (if you pass the AP exam) will fulfill your History/Social Studies requirement for College.

That is what you need to know at this time.

I think what you take in 8th and 9th grade will not affect your admission to college except as the courses better prepare you for your high school courses.

I believe that taking a couple of honors courses in the fields that really interest you and doing well in them is preferable to taking all honors courses and either risking burnout from studying too much or making mediocre grades because of your overload.

I think you will be fine as long as you keep your grades up!!! It's better to get good grades in regular classes than to have your GPA drop because you are trying to do too much. You didn't tell us what you think you want to do in life, but with a good math/science education, there will be a lot of fields open to you. Remember to be a kid, too-- you only get to do that once in life, and unless you are in some ripping hurry to get through college, relax and take it at your own pace--- what you take in high school probably won't make that much difference in college unless you want to graduate in 3 years. AP courses are a good thing, but there will be plenty of time to take college classes in college. Remember that colleges look at the whole picture, and get involved in extracurricular activities and community activities. They will help you to become a well rounded person, will help you get into college, and will help you decide what you want to do in life-- vocation and avocation. You sound like a smart kid. Good Luck!!

You'll probably be alright. Colleges look primarily at High School grades and classes.

with your plan that is the way to go but most colleges require an english and history for graduation requirements. by taking them now, it will be a breeze in college.

good luck.
