They recommend bathing them when they're febril, so I think it would help. I actually think a regular bath would be better though. It would cool their entire body all at once instead of "here and there".

In contrary to the other answers, there's no need to take them to the hospital if you know what's causing the fever. And, unlike the answer above anything up to 102 degrees is perfectly normal in infants and children. Their temperatures fluctuate all the time and up to 102 is normal. There's no need to take them to the hospital (unless of course you feel something is seriously wrong) so for right now a warm bath is all that is needed.

Good lord why don't you just ask what to do if the child has a fever. I had to look up febrile! Does anyone besides doctors use this sort of language?

To answer your question, it will relieve the child a bit, but it usually doesn't take down a temperature. Infant Tylenol is the way to go. If the baby is over 101 degrees, take them to the ER.

a warm/cold water bath on a child that has fever, will definetly bring the fever down. Give the child infant motrin or tylenol, make sure you are constant rubbing a cloth covered ice pack on the face, neck, and head. Also, keep the child in as little cloths as possible until the temp, is at a safer level like 98 degrees.

Take the child in if the fever is above 102, and you have tried all the rest, I took my son in once like that and they inserted a rectal fever reducer, got him naked only wearing his diapers, and would ultimately have to go into a tub full of ice, if the fever persisted, so save your baby and yourself the pain of it all.

I would do a full bath. It will bring the temperature down. Sponge bath may help too. Obviously if they start crying then stop or warm the water a bit more as they are probably too cold.

It also works for adults.

I would bring your child to see a doctor, when there is a fever present, this is a sign of the body trying to fight something. It could be a virus/flu or something worse. The younger the infant, the more sever the problems may be.
Go to this site and do some reading. You should really seek medical attention.

Make sure it is tepid.

Do not put the baby in ice water like the healthcare lady said. I had a fever as a toddler and mom put me in cold water and I had a seizure from temp dropping so fast.

So make sure its lukewarm.

yes and tylenol. If the child is under three months, lethargic then go to the Er. If the child is happy, playful, then give tylenol and wait till am. Tylenol is 15 mg per kg. Go to tylenol website for proper dosing. It is best to dose by weight rather than age.
