If you buy one at the store it will be cheaper...unless you are looking for a gaming computer that is. You can get general computer for $300-400. Time is money.
You want to make sure you have at least the minimum requirements to operate the new operting system that is coming out (Vista) to protect your investment, and make sure the video card you buy has enough memory to run Vista. (* you can always add more memory to your motherboard).
