Start with 4 parts eggnog to 1 part whiskey and see how it goes. If the awkwardness gets to be too much, increase to half-and-half. If still too much to handle, abandon the eggnog and swill straight from the bottle.

As a young kid after my parents got divorced my sister and myself usually went to my father's house on Christmas Eve and spent the night, then we went to our mother's house for Christmas day. I'm not sure how your parents are, my Christmas's were never awkward. Don't worry about it and just enjoy the holiday and what you get.

its not your job to defuse the awkwardness. just accept that its going to happen and learn to deal with it. You didn't cause the breakup.

If you want to diffuse the awkwardness right away...then speak up...acknowledge it....and talk about it...honestly...openly...and lovingly. Best way to diffuse anything is to take the fuse out right??? Doesn't matter who should or shouldn't be the right one to do it....the right one...is the one that cares enough to be willing to try....i admire your courage!!

i think keeping as many of your holiday traditions as possible will help to maintain a little bit of a feeling of "normalcy"
