Mars is not the same distance away from the Sun, Mars has a soil of iron oxide while the Earth has organic material, and Earth has running water while Mars no longer does.

No life, Mars is about 1/2 of Earths diameter, and 75 million more kilometers from the Sun.

Mars has a thinner atmosphere, it does not harbor life as we know it, and it doesn't have oceans covering the face of the planet. There are three short reasons that Mars is unlike Earth.

Some of these responses above are humorous......for those of you who think Mars is too hot, try picking up a book on the subject...find the chapter titled "Climate"...and reread that part about how cold it can get on the planet.
1. No genuine magnetic field to shield the planet from solar/cosmic radiation
2. Too cold....waaaayyy too cold in some places
3. Atmosphere is too thin, and is mostly made up of Carbon Dioxide.
