people are quite friendly - they say that the further south you go in Germany, the friendlier the people get (Munich is in the southern region of Bavaria).
food and beer is quite good - definitely try the weisswurst (white sausages) and all the other sausages on offer. i'd recommend visiting the viktualienmarkt during the day, it features quite a few food and drink stands. best beer, in my opinion, is augustiner - it's a local brew, and i'm sure a local could point you in the direction of an augustiner beer hall. Other local beers I enjoyed were Paulaner and Franziskaner.
Also worth seeing is the glockenspiel in Marienplatz (the main square in Munich)...around 12pm, the glockenspiel moves - it's mildly interesting, though a bit overrated for me.
There's the Englischer Gartens which feels a bit like Central Park in New York City.
The Schloss Nymphenburg is a nice castle that feels a bit like the Versailles in France.
And if you're into sports, check out the Olympic grounds and a Bayern Munich football/soccer match.

Don't know if these places are still there, but check out World of Music and for food, try the restaurant underneath city hall.

and of course a trip to Munich means you have to go to the Hofbrau House.

When I say Munchen, I think about shopping, beer and food. So, my advice, take some money with you, cause you'll want to shop for sure.
And don't worry, there are things to do in Munchen!
You'll be fine, just take a map with you if that will make you feel more secure.
