I was born in 1964 too -- October to be exact. There's a book called October 1964 by David Halberstam. It's about the Yankees-Cardinals World Series of that year. In a review on Amazon.com, someone says this:

The 1964 World Series was won by the heroics of men that the Yankees didn't understand, by men who couldn't play for the Yankees, by virtue of who they were [because they were black]. The Yankees could accept being struck out 15 times by Sandy Koufax [in the 63 series], but when they struck out 13 times against Bob Gibson [in 64] -- on whom their sole scouting report was woefully inaccurate -- it was an outrage. Gibson wasn't supposed to have courage, or determination! Lou Brock wasn't supposed to get more hits in the Series than Mickey Mantle!

(The previous answer that lists 1964 as the year of the Yankees-Dodgers series is mistaken. That was in 1963.)

Also a list of everything that happened (news-wise) in 1964 can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1964
