Yes it happened all the time to me in the Police force for about 18 years. There are laws now to prevent it but what actually happens is that the bosses cover it up and deny it happens.

Bullying in the work place is very common. Lots of bullies in the workplace, Especially Vice presidents, brutal.
Anyway, your only real option is to keep on smiling, do your job and make alliances with appropriate co-workers that can offer some protection.
Important to bear in mind workplaces tend to be very feudal. It is important to cultivate allies and patrons.

Yes, I've had this happen a LOT. I usually tell the supervisor and let them handle it. If that doesn't work, tell your boss you're going to handle it and confront the person who is mistreating you. If it's really bad, you can see a lawyer and sue them for creating a hostile work environment.

Yeah my boss is a bully. (and a coward) So I told him to stop trying to bully me because he can't. After that he was an *** kisser to me and 6 months later I quit just when he needed me most.
My advice: Don't put up with it!!!!

Yes, I was when I was pregnant of my first son, in 1995. There were smokers and they would smoke in front of me. It was before the law that prohibited smoking in public places. It was awful, I complained, and nobody did anything, so I had to go. But there is Karma. Unfortunately, one of them died of cancer about 5 yrs ago. And my son is healthy, and hates cigarrettes.

sadly im going through it now, Im experiencing "reverse" racism, Im the only "non-Black" employee at my job, and for some reason I get the worst shifts they talk about me and try and belittle me, they know I need the job so I put up with it what pisses me off is that they'd be the first to cry foul if they were the victims of racism... Pisses me off

You stand on your integrity because you know the truth. And confront them. People are afraid of confrontation and bullies play on this. If you embarrass them publicly by proving them as liars, it shows you won't take it.

Yep.
This person who was in my face all the time trying to tell me how to do my job and she was my subordinate.
I went to my boss.....she did nothing. I took it to HR and they did nothing. I got a new job and I am happy as a clam. Tell your boss..
Tell your boss that you would hate to have to quit your job over this.
If your boss does not back you up move on.....you are in the wrong job.

Put my arm around him, gave him a big smile and then shared my pictures from the seminar that I had just gone to.
(It was a martial arts seminar.)
For some reason, there wasn't a problem any more.
