Even though we dont think they would care about the fact if the light is on or not....Well in reality it does matter...fish are very sensitive to light and vibrations....as fish dont have eye lids that can shut out the light...they do need to have at least some hours when the light is off...fish do sleep you know and it would be hard for them to do that with the light on..

No the lights need to come off. The lights should be on for about 8 hours a day or so. Having the light on all the time can cause algae growth which can affect your fish.

You definitely should. Fish sleep, and fish need a day and night cycle to make sense of things. They won't die if you leave the light on, but they won't be as happy (and thus they will be less active and less colourful, and won't live as long or grow as big).
Not to mention, algae will quickly take room if your tank light is on for too long.
If turning your light on and off is a pain, considering investing in a timer. They cost a whole 5$ :) And you can set it and forget it, so to speak.

It is important to turn it off so the fish can sleep. Also, leaving it on will cause tons of algae. If you don't feel like turning it on and off, buy a timer. If you want it to be on at night, but it in a dark room and only turn on the light at night.

you should turn the lights off occasionally because keeping the lights on all the time can stress the fish out and makes them more vulnerable to diseases. fishes need to "sleep" too.

you can leave the light on forever if you want to and you don't have an algae problem you need to control, it really doesn't bother the fish

Well, it probably won't kill the fish, but it stresses them up to not have a day/night cycle. Plus it encourages algae growth.
