They are doing "senior trees" this year in my community. Like the "angel trees" where you select a child, you select a senior, in a nursing home or alone, and purchase a gift. My dad is in a nursing home and the last time I was there, I was walking away from his room, crying...a little old lady in a wheelchair said "Honey, have you lost someone?Cause I ain't got nobody so if you need somebody, I'm here, I need somebody..." it was so sad. I stopped and gave her a hug. When I go visit my dad for Christmas, I'll take her something.

The best thing you can give to someone in a nursing home who may not get many visitors is some of your time. They especially enjoy when children come to visit and sing Christmas carols and such.

well,
I work in a hosptial, and we have a tree set up with names from our community nursing home. And if you choose to, you can buy a gift for a resident that has no family. The nursing home staff gives you suggestions on what to buy. And i know they serve something special to those who can eat it. Unfortunatly there are residents that have to stick to a specific diet (yes, even on christmas-i know it sucks) so they have to skip the pumpkin pie :).

show them that you care for them. love them even if they are sometimes crazy. kind words, caring hands and loving hearts are all they need, not only during the Christmas season but throughout their lives.
