If he keeps doing it even though it's hurting him,
then you should be worried.

As a mom I'd be concerned if my daughter did that to herself only when frustrated. I would speak to my child's pediatrician about it. He/she may be able to tell you if this is typical behavior they've seen and make recommendations to help. It might be a good idea to start teaching your son some sign language. It may help alleviate the frustration if he's able to convey his needs in an alternative way.

I don't have an answer for you, but I'm posting to let you know my 12-month-old does that too. She doesn't bite hard, just thrusts her forearm into her mouth. I'll be looking forward to the answers here, but I just wanted to let you know he's not the only one. :)

I wouldn't worry about it at 10 months old, but if he continues to do it as he get older(like around 2yrs) I would bring it up to his doctor.

my daughter bit her hand, until one day she made herself a bruise! It hurt sooo bad she never did it again! He'll learn when it hurts bad enough! Ignore him in the meantime, he's just doing it for attention. He'll notice you're not paying him any. Even if he's 10 months, THEY KNOW!!! Their beautifull monsters... err I mean angels!! heehee! Good luck

That can be normal for some kids. They don't know how to express themselves well, so sometimes they use their mouths to bite. Try to redirect him to another way to express his frustration OR to step in before he gets frustrated and help him.

It's probably a teething and gums issue. Quite normal.
