I am wanting to buy for my 13 year old grandaughter. All her friends are getting an I Pod and are trying to make her feel like she is not "cool" because she might not get an I Pod, but I feel the MP3 is a better choice, not only for the price but for the features. Your answers will make the decision. So please help

mp3 player is better. just get her that, explain to her the features that make it better, and allow her to show her friends hers. encourage her to be confident and different. it doesn't matter what other people have. she will end up liking her mp3 player more then she would ever like an ipod. she'll understand in the long run.

I would get the iPod Nano if I were you. Why? Because the iPod Nano has an amazing, superslim design with a bright, photo-friendly screen. It is easy to operate and works seamlessly with iTunes and the iTunes Music Store, which has the world's largest selection of music.
It is only 0.26 of an inch thin and 1.41 ounces light. The iPod nano packs a lot into its diminutive design. Up to 24 hours of battery life. A brighter color display. A dock connector that fits an entire ecosystem of iPod accessories. With features like these, iPod nano changes the way you experience your music and more.

SanDisk Sansa e250 costs around $100-$110. It is 2GB which means it hold around 500 songs. It shows photos and has video playback. It has a nice vibrant screen, and it also has a voice recorder. There is an FM tuner from which you can listen to the radio or even record from. It has a MicroSD slot so you can expand the memory at a given time. It has a nice sleek design and has the same dimensions as the iPod Nano except for the thickness which it is more thicker.

iPods play mp3's....but iPods are pretty evil, and hard to get repaired. My battery shelled and apple basically said that I would have to get a replacement iPod for like $200 since it was barely a week after warranty, and that's almost what I payed for it. It's just a matter of whether you want to follow the trends (as that's pretty much all the hype about iPod consists of...a trend), I guess, but you can definitely find better mp3 players (at better prices!) out there than an iPod.
