You really want a guitar that fits you in the way it feels and sounds. I would go to a guitar store and see which ones fit your budget. From that group, I would narrow it down to which sounds more like how you want your guitar to sound since they all have different crispness and tonal qualities. Mostly, have fun! My son likes the Guitar Center. The local one has sales people that really take their time listening to my son to help him figure out what guitar he wants, amps, etc. and they have not sold us anything bad yet. I can tell you personal experience that the cherry sunburst Gibson my son has can sure take all the punishment a teenage boy can give the guitar and it still sounds awesome!

well....this one may cost u more than ur willing to pay, but the new Les Paul Jr ,by Gibson, is supposed to be awesome!!! it's the newest electric by Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, and u can get it on ebay or type it in the search engine to find the official site!
this is only if ur going to be serious, because ur gonna have to put alot of time, money , and energy in order to have this one.
(i just got a bass a few days ago, but that was going to be my choice of i was going to be serious in electric)
