That's understandable. She shouldn't do it in front of you. You could try asking her to not do it, in front of you, but that's it- other tan trying to ingore what you see. She likey has a justifiable reason, for spanking the child, but it really shouldn't be done, in front of witnesses.

Not sure. I think some spanking is necessary for the instilling of discipline. Is that child being abused? Or do you just not agree with the concept of spanking, period? Look at the big picture - who's in control? The kid or the parents?

It's her child and long as she's not abusing him (leaving bruises, marks, causing injury ) what CAN you do. You can't tell her how to parent. Some kids need to be spanked--or have you not been to any grocery stores in the daytime? These parents that allow their kids to scream and wail in public really disgust me.
You know what, I retract my position....some of the parents need to be spanked.
"Spare the rod, spoil the child" I take literally.

Tell your friend that watching her punish her child is also a punishment to you. Explain that you're not comfortable and ask that she either discipline her child privately or less physical another way. If she refuses, then you'll have to realize that she can do what she wants, how she wants when you are in her home. As for her disciplining her child in your home, you have the right to set up rules that she will need to respect as your guest.

Get over it. Are you having flashbacks to childhood trauma or something? If so, seek counseling.
Real simple about how to fix it.
If she's abusing her kids, call CPS.
If she's disciplining her kids thank her for me. I hate out of control kids that never learned their place.
If you don't know the difference, talk to an old wise person or two that has raised at least 5 kids of their own.

Leave the room if it upsets you, but your friend has the right to discipline her child however she see fits. If she's not breaking the childs limbs punching them in the face and stomach, kicking, biting, holding them under water then it really has nothing to do with you....

You could ask her not to do it in front of you. But really it is none of your business. It is her child and her right to decide how to raise that child. Do you have a child or children? If not, maybe you can't really understand what it is like to be her.

Why is that you business...children need to be disciplined.
If that makes you cry, then go to juvenile hall and see all the kids who were not spanked.

it does not upset me unless they are abusive and hitting their child or viciously spanking or slapping them. I spank my kids, albeit only when they are directly disobedient or disrespectful or when they were younger, doing something dangerous.
