In what respect? GWB is in dire straits because of Iraq, but the economy, under him, has never been so good. Clinton was more concerned about little willie then anything else but we stayed out of war. Nixon opened foreign trade and recognition, but had bad advisers and ended up devastating faith in the Presidency, Johnson helped open up civil rights but allowed the war in Vietnam to almost destroy us. No one president can be great or bad. Lincoln was confused and a waffler, Carter was out of his league, JFK was a philanderer with a great public relations staff.

If the next president does not do what some people think he should or could do, he could be the worst. So it is all according to your perspective.

Bush will go down in History as the worst, or at least the one that did the most damage to the country, and made the world the most dangerous for Americans. And most historians agree that Warren Harding and Andrew Johnson always belong in the top three or four or so of the "Worst 10" List. Johnson was impeached and wreaked havoc in trying to reunite the country after the Civil War, while Harding was a notorious drunkard who would bring prostitutes into the white house.

There are some really good answers already, but I figured I'd give my two cents!

James Buchanan--the president before Lincoln. Buchanan did nothing to prevent the American Civil War--and in fact thought that the slavery question would be finally decided by the Supreme Court. (Whether or not the new territories would allow slavery or not.) The nation still has deep wounds from the Civil War and maybe if we had a stronger leader in the 1850s, the country would have not been divided against itself.

It depends on your perspective; the media has definitely frenzied the public into loathing the job GWB has done, yet you do not hear countries like Saudi Arabia protesting our presence in Iraq. Saddam Hussein was a horrific individual with eyes on crushing Israel. We can only speculate how we are being allowed to occupy Iraq the way we are today.

If the role of worst President is solely based on political or social blunders while in office, History can point to Ulysses Grant. There were many scandals, especially in relation to the Whiskey Tax and the appointment of Indian agents. Despite his interest in creating a peace with the Indians, Custer's Massacre occurred during his tenure. Also the freed men lost much ground during his term, as the white supremacists regained control in the Southern states.

You have all this occur, yet get your mug on the Fiddy. Nice.

Hindsight will only be able to tell if George W's legacy is truly of poor leadership, so see you in 20 years or so about that....

Andrew Johnson.

Lincoln had the executive powers of the President expanded for a real reason and understood he had to use them responsibly. Johnson was an idiot that didn't understand what he had under his belt and should have relinquished it. STILL, he made a fool of himself by abusing them in the weakest and most ridiculous manner.

Bush is far and away the worst and Andy Johnson sounds like he was worse than Nixon... Tricky Dicky may have done some dirty tricks but he also did some really good stuff...bush will not be able to say that.

Bush does have everyone beat- but second may go to Lyndon Johnson. Funny- Vietnam and Iraq- no similarities there.

Wow, I bet you're going to get a lot of slams for dissing Bush...even though you didn't, you just told people to not choose him.

Anyway, I think Nixon was pretty bad. He was the only one to be forced to resign, after all.

I don't think Clinton was a bad president. Most presidents had affairs (just look at JFK and Jefferson). The thing that ruined his presidency was the unfounded trial and attempted impeachment, as they took him away from his job. Our morals screwed up his ability to do his job. (I mean, I think he's moral scum, but he knew how to do his job.)
