I have a 3 week old baby whom I feed expressed breast milk.
How do I figure out how much to give her at each feeding ?

Babies wont over eat...so dont worry there. : )

My daughter at that age didnt drink expressed milk yet. I was still with her ALL the time and didnt want anyone else to feed her. Though I can fully understand wanting the help....

I would try two ounces first. If she is still hungry...then make two more ounces. She is only 3 weeks old so her little belly wont be able to handle much more then 3 ounces or so. But during a growth spurt you never know what may happen!!

The way that the AAP states that you should feed is 2.5 times their body weight in a day. So...if she is 10 pounds....then she would get 25 ounces of milk a day. Dived that by how many times she feeds....and walla!!

Good luck with your little one!! Congrats!! And thank you for being another bm mommy!!

She is getting adequate amounts of expressed breast milk if she is going 2 to 3 hours before getting hungry again. Increase her feedings the same way - if the amount you're giving doesn't last 2 to 3 hours, increase the amount you offer her the next feeding.

At her age, I wouldn't prepare more than an ounce or two at each feeding. I know breast milk is as about as valuable as gold so you don't want to waste any - but it will be inevitable. Try starting with just preparing an ounce and if she wants more, prepare another. Keep a record of how much she's eating at each feeding and it will give you a better idea of how much she'll want next time. Always keep a separate one or two ounce serving available if she wants more than you've prepared.

If you need to heat it up, just heat up 2 oz. If she is still hungry, heat up a couple ounces more at a time. She'll let you know when she is no longer hungry. Just feed her until she doesn't want any more. She will not overeat at this age.

My daugher was eating about 2-4 oz at this age.....she is 5 weeks now and she eats anywhere from 4-6 oz.....try 2-3oz at first and if she wants more give her more....kind of like nursing you feed them and if they still act hungry feed them again.....let her eat until she's done.
