Because I know my daughter (22 months here) will be thrilled to rip apart and play with the wrapping paper and shiny bows and never remember the gifts, I've decided to do something a little different that will benefit her down the road...

I'm going to sort thru the toys she already has and hide some until I can wrap them or put them in her stocking. I figure if they're out of her sight (and hands) for about 2 weeks, she'll have forgotten about them and come Christmas they'll suddenly be "new", but comforting in the back of her mind.

I'm then going to deposit the money I would've spent on toys into the savings account Gramma opened for her. I'll also let our family and friends know so they can decide if they'd rather ship packages or send a couple bucks to the "soon to be a teenage girl and then college student" fund.

Next year I'll have to worry about stocking stuffers and toys she may remember, but for now cheap & easy is great!!

Once my kids opened their presents they totally forget what was in the stocking, except any candy items. So I started a new tradition given to me by a friend. Each Christmas they get a new set of pjs, toothbrush and something else like bubble bath. So my money isn't wasted in unwanted small item stocking stuffers.

Well... first of all, a 20-month old doesn't care about gifts. They are more likely to play with wrapping paper and ribbons than anything else. My suggestion is to get a gift card for the parents for an evening out, or something nice and adult, and wrap it in something the baby can play with.

small cars and trucks, those fat crayons and a colouring book, playdoh, blocks, a small stuffed animal and chocolate.
