Well, you're supposed to feel burning. I'm pretty sure the active ingredient is menthol or something similar. That should produce that hot/cold feeling, which is kinda like burning. If it took 15 minutes and was only mild, that's too long. Most of the active ingredient probably evaporated long since. Try some new stuff and that burning feeling should be a lot greater... which is the whole point! Breathing the evaporating menthol is the other purpose, of course. Ah, topical creams....

When did you actually buy the jar? Because if it expired 10 years ago I don't think any reputable store would still be selling it. Even if it is 10 years old I don't think it's harmful, just less potent.

It burns as it is vapo-rub. It's harmless. The expiration date is that the camphor may have lost some of its efficacy

I don't think it's supposed to burn. Get it off as best you can and see if there is a # to call on the jar or on the Vicks web site.

i would wash it off, especially since its burning,,,,,,,most things either lose strength with age, or gain strength ,,, but really anything could happen with the chemical interaction,,,, i never knew it had an experation date on it!, but if it has, it must be there for a reason, besides getting you to buy a new jar

I would throw it away and get some more. Don't worry about what you already put on, it probably just doesn't do the job anymore.
