1. Round up files, like pictures, videos, text, program installation files [not the files from installed programs] and the like and save them to cd . This will give you the most space.

2. Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup.

3. Same place, but this time choose Disk Defragmenter.

First of all delete all files on the Recycle Bin. It can sometimes be a big suprise to find GB's of data in here.

Also like to mention that the Disk Defragmenter does not clear disk space but just organizes all data files to be in the same place to save time for the harddrive. As the harddrive saves and deletes in random places.

Then try doing a search for files on the Root of C for files over the size of 50MB and zip the once you don't use.

Or best solution is to back up to external usb/firewire hard drive

Apart from saving all your media files to CD or DVD you can use a free cleanup program called Crap Cleaner (CCleaner). It will clean your cache and other undesirable files from your system. Try the link below. Ultimately you should get more hard drive storage (250 gigabyte or more) for under $200. Good luck!

you can do a clean up of system restore points
and then do a defrag of your pc
that works for me
use disk cleanup in system tools and there is a more options tab
and it will get rid of restore points which use a lot of space
but only do this if your system is running fine and you dont need these old restore points to go back to.

compress some un-used docs by either:
a) put them in a ZIP Compressed Folder
or
b) go into Properties of the file and select the General tab and check the box that reads 'Compress this file...' (you need XP for this)
