If you decide simply "living la vida loca", you might see after several years your children asking you "dad, why do not we have a bigger and own house like Thoma's family?"
If you just decide to be focused in the future and you do not live the moment a little, you might miss excellent moments with family/friends or you might get crazy just studying for your future without having a break to enjoy life a little.
Even worst (i do not wish you that) you life might be shorter than expected because an accident, desease or similar and at the end,you die after a lot of years of study and a foxy wife inheriting all your savings you have kept in your bank account all those years.
Conclusion: Find a way to reach a wise balance between both living for the moment and plan for the future.
Also to add that some people think that any extreme is good in general, so..

it depends on a person's current situation really. if they are having a miserable time so far then perhaps they should do something to address that problem. but otherwise, it is good to live for the moment and be grateful for the positive things that are happening to you and for you, because you never know what the future might hold for you. you may be able to predict what will happen in the future, but some of it may not come true or some of those ambitions, hopes, plans won't all be fulfilled. the future is tricky in places but for as long as you keep hoping, doing the right things and focus ahead, then the future should look promising still. just don't think too ahead for yourself, but rather to take one step at a time

Everything exists in this moment, no matter what is this moment, so its better to live for this moment. The future will come in time, then, lives in that moment, and live for that moment. To plan ahead will sometimes be advantageous, but as far as probabilities go, no one can be sure of anything of the future, so, great efforts can be wasted. Always live for what you live in, because you will always live in it.

First, I think that it is necessary to define "better."
I have done both, and I must say that for me is is more efficient to plan for the future. Given, I personally am a control freak. Yet living in the moment certainly makes life more enjoyable, which most people would believe to be 'better.'
Ultimately, it also depends on your life position. Are you currently involved in a career and relationships that are rewarding to you? What goals did you set for yourself five years ago? If you were to die tomorrow, would you feel fulfilled with the things that you spent your time doing?
Living in the moment brings a level-headedness that planning does not. Whilst living in the moment, I have acquired peace, joy, acceptance, knowledge, and spontaneity. However, building torwards my future has brought me passion, motivation, excitement, drive, meaning, and purpose.
It is up to you, ultimately.

Hi, I don't know about "live for the moment" but I would definitely say make the most of every day and remember that planning is good but doesn't always work out when the due date comes....ie. pension plans and even government pensions....so do take a few risks so that you have memories of how "brave" you were when you look back on your life. Of course, the odd Swiss Bank Account is never a bad idea!!!! (not that I have one). I have travelled, lived abroad and had both good and bad experiences but I do not regret the fact that I took the risk and lived a little!

I 'd say live for the moment so that you can enjoy it to the full, and plan for the future as best as you can, but I believe that in life what is meant for you will come your way regardless, so make the most of it.

Thats actually a bit of a paradoxical question if you think about it. because if you decide to live for the moment and that's how you are going to live your life from this day forward then by virtue of your own decision you are planning for your future by deciding that henceforth your going to live for the moment from now on?
So whichever way you go you must make A PLAN for your future?
