I was raised in America and have a ton of respect for my parents. They've done everything I want to do and know how it can help me or hurt me. I hate generalizations like that. It's like saying if you're raised in France you have poor hygiene or if you're raised in Mexico you don't have any work ethic (both of which I've heard, and both of which aren't true).

I do not believe that at all. It depends on the individual. Some feel once they graduate high school they move out and they are now adults. They soon find out that is not so. The college students need help with tuition so they usually treat their parents with respect because without their parents they would not be able to afford college. Love between parents and children is not expressed the way it used to be . There are some children even grown ones who think that their parents owe them everything.

I think that kids respect there parents, but because of this day in age they are growing up faster then ever and I think that evreybody went through that kinda reble starge when they were teenagers. I think that younger kids starting to go through that. I actully read an article in the paper saying that scients are puzzled at why kids are gowing through puberty at a younger age. I think your right to, kids just want to be independent. I mean cultrue does have some influence to but I think overall kids are just growing up faster.

I think US kids have different circumstances than many kids in other countries. Smart alecks exist in all societies. It's what we allow. It is rediculous to compare children from different ethnic/economic/social conditions with others. Much like comparing apples with cockroaches.
Remember, if all were not better here for most of us then people would not come here from other countries. The ones I hear complain the most are from some of the more backward nations with heavy caste systems (or social systems) where people have less value than their perceived status in their own countries. Again, I say if you don't like it here then go to hell on your way back home!

If you believe ALL children of the USA are disrespectful of their elders than you are just ignorant. I have great respect for my parents and elders. I have also been instilling that value in my children. My friends with children are doing the same thing.
There are people and children everywhere that aren't respectful of others. It is an unfortunate part of humanity.

You must respect your elders but on the other hand....i think our elders have betrayed us....and brainwashed us. They watch fox news and believe every bit of it....we step outside the box and open our minds...that scares them. They grew up believing what they were told...in religion, in politics...its like there parents told them if they fall down they will hurt themselves and when they find out there parents were right they go right along with all there parents beliefs without questioning what they think is the truth. But most of what they believe can be dis-proven with common since.

the kids have no respect for there parents here unless the parents keep a watchful eye and spend time with their kids and insist on making a family. So many families have 2 working parents and there is no time for the family per se. the time has to b made and GOD has to b brought back into all aspects of life. the separation of church and state was the worse mistake our fore fathers made.

Well, you have to understand that he was brought up in a much different environment than yours. In his perspective, respect can mean no eye contact during an argument or it could be anything. This is a multicultural world and people have different views regarding manners and good conduct.

I don't think it's true, either. To believe it would be to believe a generalization. I think older generations perceive younger people nowadays in this way because they have more rights now than ever before. Just because they don't do every single thing their parents want them to do doesn't make them "disrespectful," as he refers to it. Now that people are actually listening to the younger generation, they just want their voices to be heard.
