"publicly announce a set of benchmarks[deadline] agreed to by the Iraqi govt." "conduct an accelerated drawdown of US bases...to 5 in July 2007" I don't know which AP you were reading? Here's another one for you, "I work at the pleasure of the President"

It's my opinion that Rumsfelt did not suggest any major alternative tactic to Bush because 1) it would have done no good and cost him his job anyway or 2) he never had an alternative strategy in the first place and it took an election where his party was decisively trounced to get the attention of the Admin.

Either way, this Admin. is dysfunctional

I read the AP wire report and that IS NOT what it says. Rumsfled recommended changes but never suggested a withdrawal.

I am so glad that useless coward Rumsfeld is gone! All he said was changes need to be made in Iraq.
Da! what a brilliant statement! Any moron with half a brain can see that. What he probably meant was kill more Iraqi civilians, spread more hate and put more of our soldiers in danger!

He probably just said that so he can say down the road that he recc'd to leave Iraq if the war continues to go badly...If it goes well in the future he will say he had stood his ground the whole time....it's so he can play both sides of the fence, imo.

yes i did, i just knew in my gut they were having this conversation behind closed doors for a long time,

i mean i understand why they wouldn't voice concern publicly, but this just confirms you can not under any circumstances believe what they say ( this also goes for all past administrations and all future ones)

The Americans are cowards, or they would have commenced the invasions of Iran and North Koreas.
