First of all, there are no longer fastcrafts servicing Cebu and Cagayan de Oro. This service has stopped around 1999. Though there are ferries operating at a regular basis to/from Cebu and Cagayan de Oro.

It is best to get your tickets all at once to avoid the hassles of again making reservations. If you are flying in via Philippine Airlines, they can get you a connecting flight to their domestic route going to Cagayan de Oro.

By March 17, most schools in the Philippines end their school year. This is the start of the Philippine summer season. The Philippines being a Catholic country celebrates the Holy Week which starts from April 1 (Palm Sunday) to April 8 (Easter Sunday). During this time, most hotels and beach resorts are fully booked. Domestic flights, ferries and even buses are full and terminals can become chaotic as locals try to get back to their respective provinces for the long weekend (April 5-Maundy Thursday, April 6-Good Friday , April 7-Black Saturday). Security during this time is also tight which adds to the long ques.

Since you will be staying in Cagayan de Oro during the Holy Week, I suggest you stay in a hotel instead of an apartment. During Good Friday, the city becomes a virtual ghost town. Major shopping centers and almost all restaurants are closed on that day. Local transportation can become difficult. Only a few ply the streets. Also during this time most people flock the Churches and worship sites.

For more information regarding accommodations and other tourist concerns, check my Cagayan de Oro tourist website at (they are the same website but has two URLs):

Just read through the website. It is the most extensive website about Cagayan de Oro City. By the way, I am not connected to any travel agency or commercial establishment. This is a personal website.

Don't forget to sign up my website guestbook. Hope this helps.

It's better to fly directly into Cebu and then take a fastcraft (ferry) to CDO. The weather here is the Visayas is best January to Mid May then it really gets hot. The tempertures here now will typically be high 70's in the daytime and high 60's f at night. It's dry season starting now and the weather will be near perfect everyday.

Depending on your budget. A hotel room is usually nicer than a Pension house. But if all you need is a place to sleep go with one of the high end Pension houses. They typically cost P500- P700 ($10 to $14) a night and have rooms with AC, HW, CATV and private bathroom.

I doubt you'll find a apartment to rent for only 2 weeks.

Enjoy your trip.

philippine airlines and cebu pacific are the only airlines that operates international flights as well as domestic flights to cagayan de oro. purchasing overseas for domestic flights is quite expensive and could sometimes be double the price if you get it in the philippines. i would advise that you buy your ticket to manila overseas and then either book your flight from manila to cagayan de oro thru the web on the address attached below. cebu pacific offers the most user friendly site where you can buy tickets and all you need is a credit card. you can choose flights that suits your needs and the earlier you purchase your ticket the cheaper it is. rooms in cagayan are relatively cheap and the last hotel i stayed was the cagayan de oro riverview hotel for two beds at around twenty dollars per night. go to the more expensive ones like pryce hotel and it costs around eighty dollars per night.

Hello,
I`m planning to go to CDO in April but will fly via Manila when i get to Philippines probably easier.
I am planning on staying at the Diamond Court hotel where the prices seem reasonable.
Try searching for CDO hotels on the internet thats what i did.

If there's a plane that can carry you direct to Cebu the better. CDO can be reached by boat from there, or a short flight. Plane ticket offices are available in Mactan International Airport. It's better to stay in pension house, it's much cheaper.
CDO is "pachada". I come from that place.

It is better to fly to Manila first. Then look for a travel agency to assist you in going there. Although I have not been there, I assure you, Cagayan de Oro is one of the beautiful places here in the Philippines. Is this your first time to come here? Just in case you need help, don't hesitate to get in touch with me and I will try my best to help you.
Hope you will enjoy your stay here. GOD BLESS.
