90 and 180 are temperature marks. The fluid expands when heated, so use the 90 mark to measure cold fluid, or 180 to measure hot fluid.

If the transmission will go into park, reverse, and drive; but, only drives in one gear, then likely an internal solenoid is to blame. Less likely, a broken or disconnected vacuum line.

However, the 94 and 95 E320's can have some very unusual wiring problems, affecting parts of the car you would never expect.

You MUST take this vehicle to a Mercedes specialist for repair, as both the Mercedes transmission, and the wiring problems of the 94/95 E320 are unlike those of other vehicles, and you'll spend hundreds of dollars with no results if you take it to someone who isn't familiar with the car. If the mechanic tells you a new transmission is needed, it means she can't diagnose the problem; pay her $50 for her time and go somewhere else. Mercedes transmissions are repaired by replacing components, not by 'rebuilding'.

Congratulations on the car though, that is the last year model Mercedes built that carries the company's legendary engineering and quality.

I assume it was like that when you bought it, and you bought it as is. Have it towed to your mechanic and have them evaluate the problem and fix.
