As far as I can remember the cartoon is from the early 1980's.
The main character is a small boy who is stranded on an alien planet. He befriends a centaur type creature that eats fruit from a tree. The centaur is then killed by killer vines.
The cartoon ends with the boy being attacked by giant mosquitos and he is saved by an old blind man.
If anyone can help I'd be grateful.

nope, i know terrahawks and it's not terrahawks, definitely a cartoon. i think french, it just has a french feel. a one-off movie.

I think that you are referring to an animated film called Time masters.
The kid gets stranded on a planet and is the only survivor. However there are a group of his friends trying to get to the planet to save him (an old man, two hero types and two little round creatures). Just as they get to the planet, it is sent back in time 60 yrs plus as part of an agricultural programme (plant crops on a planet, send it back in time, go back to the planet location and it is full of mature crops).
Also as this is happening, the giant mosquito's attack the crops and the kid. Back in the past some one lands on the planet and rescues the kid, who is injured and has to have a metal plate put on his skull.
Now here is the twist - turns out that the kid grows up, has all kinds of adventures, then, as an old man, has to help some friends rescue a little kid who has been stranded on a planet - in other words the old man is the stranded kid and they do not realise they are the same person !!!!
A great film !!!!

never heard anything like that. try cartoon images on google. you never know.
